Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan offered a woeful outlook of America's economic situation on Sunday, saying the crisis with the country's financial institutions was as dire as he had ever seen in his long career, and predicting that one or more of those institutions would likely collapse in the near future.

The truth is Greenspan wanted to raise rates in 2000-2001. But he had a meeting with Bush at that time and came out to lower rates to record levels.
Don't blame it on Greenspan. Blame this mess on the person who twisted his arm to lower the interest rates.

Does it make any difference whatsoever what administration Greenspan served under? There are no checks and balances on the Federal Reserve. You the people, nor your elected politicians, have any control whatsoever over its activities. Wake up and realize that no matter who's elected, the same cabal ends up running the show - then you MIGHT have a chance of still living in the USA in the morning.

Greenspan should have gone on to point out that home prices can only stabilize when they once again become affordable. Homes cannot be priced higher than 3-5 times the median income over the long term. Attempts to artificially prop up overpriced home values will not work, they will only extend the misery for longer than if they correct naturally.
Many people blame Greenspan (and rightly so) for inflating this bubble in the first place. But remember, he was just following orders.

Bush is also extremely liberal. He's signed virtually every spending bill that's come down the pike from the liberal leftist big spending congress. He's engaged in "nation-building" - something he expressly said he wouldn't do. Obama is a big fan actually as well, "The political magazine National Journal rated Obama the most liberal senator for 2007, while Congressional Quarterly calculated that Obama voted with Bush 40 to 50 percent of the time the past two years." Ya, some change there.

Greenspan: (1) claimed that real estate couldn't experience a bubble, (2) actually suggested that folks obtain adjustable-rate mortgages as short-term rates were making their lows, and (3) has been unable to realize that the Fed should have been warning banks about their imprudent lending standards.

Greenspan LOWERED interest rates to prevent a crash after the tech bubble. What do you think that does?? Greenspan lowered rates to 1% in 2002 he knew that money would surge into the economy and create the appearance that everything was alright. The economy sputtered along from the economic activity generated by the housing boom.

Exactly, real conservatives don't exist any more. Real conservatives believe in smaller, not larger government. They have a tendency towards traditional morality - our society certainly does not. They believe in the rights of individuals, and not group rights and their inherent quotas. True conservativism is by the book - the constitution. What we have seen is liberalism dressed as conservativism. We'll see more of it under McCain, who's been rated one of the most liberal senators.
